Image Dressing

Image Dressing was an interactive, online workshop that explored how images of clothes shape our sense of self, and how acts of wearing can provide unique opportunities to reimagine identities and self-images. As our interactions with one another become increasingly mediated through intangible screens, unattainable images and digital corporations, the workshop sought to reactivate the agency of individuals through introducing material and embodied agencies into digital and online spaces of representation. During the workshop participants were invited to engage in a live collage experiment, in which they “dressed” themselves using images of clothes that they had seen but never worn. In doing so they were asked to consider both how looking at and wearing clothes contributes to the formation of identity, and how idealised self-images can be disrupted and reimagined through individualised bodily engagement.
