Imaginary Clothes comprised of an exhibition and interactive workshop that were presented as part of ‘Uncertain Endings’ for Melbourne Fashion Week 2025. The project explored how everyday people might reimagine mass-produced garments using illustration, as a simple and accessible tactic for making and remaking fashion.
The exhibition component included a series of secondhand clothes, illustrated with images of current clothes, and draped over framed vintage prints. During the workshop, participants were invited to participate in a similar process by choosing an image of a fashion item they desired from a current fashion magazine, and drawing it onto a secondhand garment. At the end of the workshop participant were invited to reflect on the wearable fashion-image they had created by composing a swing tag outlining their illustrative intent.
